Backyard rules
Each inning, the two throwers alternate tosses — two shoes apiece. Shoes stay in the pit until the inning ends.
The Climb: beat the papa guarding each level to move up. Every level is a new board — plain backyard first — and every papa throws straighter than the one before. Papa Frank waits at his own birthday on Level 10. Frank don't miss. Past him sits Level 11: The Championship — Papa Buff himself, the champ, in his own yard, belt on the line.
High Score Records: tap Start Run and climb clean from Level 1. Every point you score adds to your run total, wins keep the run alive, and one loss ends it and writes it to the board. Beat Papa Buff and the run is crowned. Top 10 runs live on the Records board — name, points, highest level, and the date.
Ringer (shoe lands around the stake): 3 points.
Any shoe resting inside the painted ring around the stake: 1 point.
Cornhole levels: Levels 2, 4 and 6 swap the shoes for bean bags at an inclined board painted for the occasion — same first-person drag-and-toss. Every other level is horseshoes, including the 4th of July (fireworks and all), Frank's Birthday, and The Championship.
Sinker (bag drops in the hole): 3 points. A bag resting on the board: 1 point. Off the board: nothing. Bags float higher and land soft — they barely bounce or slide, so drop it right on the wood.
Whoever scores more in an inning throws first in the next one.
First to 21 at the end of an inning wins. Tied at 21 or more? Play another inning.
The view: first-person — you're standing at the foul line, shoe in hand, looking down the pit at the far stake. The pit narrows with distance just like your own eyes see it, so judge the toss by the dotted flight line.
Aiming: press and drag down to build power — the dotted line shows the flight away from you. Slide left or right while dragging to steer the shoe sideways. Release to throw.
The yard levels up too: in The Climb, every level dresses the backyard — rails and fresh clay on the pit, trim and string lights, lamp posts, and a bigger cookout crowd — until the finale: Frank's birthday bash, the biggest party of the year.
Your Backyard: every level you clear earns gear from that board's papa — Earl's picnic table, Harold's banner set, Ray's DJ booth, Leon's string lights, Frank's grill and bash kit. It all lands in Your Backyard, your trophy case — and decks out the Championship yard at Level 11, where the full cookout shows up for your shot at the champ.
The scene: there's a whole cookout going on around the pit — picnic tables, grills smoking, guests hanging out, and a DJ working the speakers (he moves with the music when it's on). On the 4th of July board, fireworks go off over the yard all game long.
The waiting man: the other thrower stands at the side of the far pit watching your toss — hands on his head when you ring one, talking smack when you miss, unimpressed when you're merely fine.
The sound: the Music switch runs a boom-bap hip-hop beat, and Sound FX carries the clangs, crowd and cookout noise. The papas' smack talk shows in the talk bar, and the Voice clips switch plays each papa's own recorded voice at the big moments: intros, smack talk, ringer celebrations, wins and losses. Papa Buff's voice waits at The Championship.
